As you likely know, autosomal (regular gene) genetic tests give you two things, 1) a list of matches (cousins), and 2) your ethnic make-up. The list of matches is often more straightforward than the Y-DNA or mtDNA matches. These are your 1st - 4th or 5th cousins, usually. However, most people scratch their heads when viewing their ethnic data. Components seem to be missing: “I thought I was (more) Irish!” “I thought I was more African!” “I know we are part Native American.” Or, there are components present that don’t seem to make sense. “We’re really part Scandinavian?
